ORIGINAL STORY: APRIL 20, 2018 (see update below)
Aside from Lost and Hound, I also work full time at an animal shelter in Milwaukee. Multiple local news and radio stations in the area feature adoptable pets from the shelter as “Pet of the Day” on their channel to catch the attention of viewers and help raise awareness for adoption. Well, on Tuesday, I took Rufus to @fm1061 to be featured as their Pet of the Day. From the second we left the shelter, Rufus carried his stuffed pumpkin pie toy with him the ENTIRE time. He played with that toy during his segment and even walked through the hallways of the radio station and out the door with it in his mouth. As we headed back to the car, Rufus hopped in the back seat. When we got back to the shelter, I turned around and found him sound asleep SNORING & snuggled with the pie. I sat in my car with him for a little bit because he was too cute to wake up. I mean, look at that folded lip! But as I sat there, I began thinking about how that little piece of pumpkin pie provided him so much comfort and was reminded again why Lost and Hound does what we do. This is a pure example of why we choose to donate a toy to a rescued shelter dog transitioning out of homelessness with every purchase you make from Lost and Hound.
I don’t often get to see who our toys go home with, but reminders like this let me know we’re helping.
UPDATE: APRIL 24, 2018
Do you remember reading the story I shared about Rufus and his stuffed pumpkin pie toy? Well, I got a message from his new mom, @_kate.elizabeth_, shortly after posting letting me know that she adopted Rufus, now Winston, from @wischumane and that his pumpkin pie was sent home with him! We decided it’d be fun to meet up for a little photoshoot and guess who came along? Winston showed up, happily adopted, with his pumpkin pie + wearing a Lost and Hound bandana that his mom picked up from @localmke! I love a good full circle story. Enjoy your new home, Winston.
